Woodbury School at The Strong offers a preschool program for three- and four-year-old children and an early kindergarten program for four- and five-year-old children. Both programs are Reggio Emilia-inspired and are therefore responsive to the interests of the children. This curriculum approach encourages teachers and students to work together to plan the curriculum and create projects. Guided by teachers who facilitate their explorations, children delve deeply into topics that fascinate and stimulate learning.
Children at Woodbury School learn and develop in playful activities set among the museum's hands-on exhibits. Small and large group activities involve art, music, cooperative games, movement, pre-reading, math, and other age-appropriate experiences.
The school, now entering its 13th year, is named in honor of the museum’s founder, Margaret Woodbury Strong, whose parents, John and Alice Woodbury, made the world Margaret's classroom and encouraged her to play in countless ways.

Small classes enable children to build confidence as they explore their world under the close supervision of early childhood teachers.
Specially designed classrooms serve as the children’s homeroom. These colorful spaces, set apart from the museum galleries, provide a familiar, comfortable, and manageable environment for children.
Supervised by their teachers, children also experience the colorful, imaginative museum exhibits including Reading Adventureland, Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden, and more. When the weather permits, children enjoy a secure outdoor play space—the Backyard—designed for the exclusive use of the school.
Woodbury teachers consider parents school partners and so encourage classroom visits and parental involvement in class experiences. Teachers launch each school year with a get-acquainted play date and hold parent-teacher conferences regularly throughout each term. During the year, parents may arrange to observe their children through a two-way mirror in the classroom’s observation area.
In the case Woodbury School closes because of inclement weather, families will receive notifications by email and text from the Dial My Calls notification system. View the current academic calendar for school-break periods and other Woodbury School closures.
